ALAN'S STORY
resilience that shaped a leader
Alan Rose has proudly called Medicine Hat home for nearly four decades. Raised by two parents with severe disabilities and having personally experienced homelessness, Alan’s early life taught him resilience, empathy, and the importance of community.
Those experiences continue to shape his leadership today. Alan believes city government works best when it listens first, acts with integrity, and makes decisions that reflect the needs of the people it serves. His approach is grounded, collaborative, and focused on practical solutions that move Medicine Hat forward.
"WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RUN FOR MAYOR?"
Reading my grandfather's journal and his experiences homesteading south of Elbow, Saskatchewan, in the 1900s, living in a sod house in -40 C weather.
I realized the hard work they did to give us the lifestyle we have today. This showed me how it is every generation's duty to make the world a better place for the future generations.
PROVEN EXPERIENCE & RESULTS.
Alan has spent decades leading high-stakes projects, solving complex problems, and delivering results recognized across Alberta and around the world:
$175 MILLION EXPANSION
Participated in the feasibility study for a major gas plant expansion as a team member, ensuring financial responsibility and operational safety in one of the region’s largest energy development projects.
AWARD-WINNING ENVIRONMENTAL INNOVATION
Initiated and managed a groundbreaking CO₂ Capture Project, removing 160 tons of CO₂ and 180 lbs of sulfur daily — recognized with the National Energy Efficiency Award (2005).
GLOBAL RECOGNITION IN CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Coordinated emergency responses to critical environmental incidents, including resolving a toxin release into the watershed. His leadership not only created permanent safety solutions but was later presented at an international wastewater conference in New Zealand.
PIONEERING ENERGY SOLUTIONS
Represented his company in a helium extraction partnership with multinational firms, and co-led innovative studies on waste heat recovery and gas liquids expansion, advancing sustainable energy practices in Alberta.
SAFETY & RISK MITIGATION
Identified and eliminated propane-related toxins at facilities, implementing long-term safety systems that protected both workers and the community.
